Earth Day 22nd of April 2008

History of Earth Day
In September 1969, at a conference in Seattle, Senator Gaylord Nelson announced that in the spring of 1970 there would be a nationwide grassroots demonstration concerning the environment. The Earth Day founder first proposed the nationwide environmental protest to thrust the environment onto the national agenda. "It was a gamble," he recalls, "but it worked."

Rainy Goal Rush
Our opposition, youngsters formed from Singapore's soccer fans site was there early warming up early while our team arrived just on time again. Team manager didnt take that lightly.
Our team started the match brightly with an offensive 4-3-3 and piled up the pressure on KR in the early opening minutes before our keeper decided to donate a goal to them, failing to collect a light grounder, he does a taibi!
we didnt make much of that goal as it was against the play of the game and almost answered immediately when kheng wee rocked their. Yet, our team decided to cry at the miss allowing KR to play the ball upwards and a perfect through pass allow them to increase their lead to 2-0.
A worst possible start possible, luckily the team wasn't short on fighting spirit and we chased to a 2-2 draw with quick goals from kheng wee and desmond who was leading our front line together with ben impressively.
KR once again snatched the lead after their CB slipped unnoticed and planted a free header from their corner. much to the anger of the Manager, "who the FUCK is marking him!!!"
a improvised long shot from the restart saw KW's shot rocketed off the cross bar and desmond free to net the return, we were back in business! taking matters into his own hands, ben made a fool out of KR's defence and turn in a superb curl effort into the bottom left, 4-3!!!
half time talk proved clinical as we sorted out our mistakes. we headed straight back into the game with KW finishing a hat trick on his debut official match and jinyu's first goal a repeat of his first half miss from a wilson corner.
Although unable to put his penetrative skills to good use in the game, daryl proved his critics with some fine defending although with some questionable backpasses. Desmond and Kelvin made their presence felt at the back after the cold start and we were making mincemeat out of KR. Jinyu shone in the center of the park, threading passes forward and spraying balls to all areas.
Robin made up for his mistakes with a fine second half display and even had 2 assists as his long balls throw KR's defence into disarray letting KW through on goal. Although they clawed one back in the second half we also saw our team practice shouting at posts.....
It could have been more if not for silly refreeing who didnt leave the middle circle throughout the game and giving wrong offside calls and accusing players of 2 legged tackles when they are standing up. wat rubbish!
good game guys and time to work on our defence!

To wat daryl had quoted from some liverpool ah pek had said before...............
somewhere closer to our time...
"The best way to play football is pass and move and as soon as Carlos gave me the ball I could see him starting his run out of the corner of my eye. He got on the end of my backheel and I'm delighted for him to have scored two today. He's worked very hard over the last two games and he deserves those goals."............wayne rooney
guys, pass and move, observe plays..........play with a football mind, not a booby brain....

ARGH, my debut manager match
Good pitch and good weather, BUT lousy start for me, assignments not done, haven study finish, lousy haircut and left cx boots on the taxi, haha hope he dun read the blog soon! hes going to kill me.
Good play today everyone, too bad our fitness is a issue again but dont worry we'll only get better. wil and kelvin, chin up, the defensive errors are just sway, can be learnt. As quoted by our ah ben, "the play is there, now we need to maintain the tempo."
Sadly the turning point of our loss came with the loss of our lion hearted Desmond, hope hes fine now and then shantan took a knock to his shin. We're a small team. Alex Keano can only look to his empty bench haha. Wilson, we need medical supplies for our next match also! look into it
we then lack penetration when Daryl and sing ping got to come off, but we're a young side, alvin, kelvin and bert need a few more games under their belt to improve from their potential.
Now i going on exam break, but hopefully i can study hard enough to have training on Sunday mornings. my Asst coach, wilson will do the arrangements. but no competitive matches for the time been. after the match, we learn and study the errors and weakness, work on it then we'll move on!!!
Ratings!!!
Robin : GK : 6.5 Safe hands on 2 shots directed at him, could have be more assertive and faster when coming out for the loose balls. Hogged on the ball a tad too long when playing CM.
Desmond : CB : 8.0 Commanding Center and showed good potential with shantan, sadly we lost him halfway to a freak knock which showed how important he was in the game.
Shantan : CB : 7.0 Great defending today, but still have to develop into a harder player. showed several good connection with jinyu today. Have to take up the commanding role in absence of Desmond.
Scott : LB : 7.0 Natural defensive players, sorry got to force him on his weaker foot but good positioning sense, got to work on clearances and get a new pair of boots.
Wilson : RB : 6.5 Flourishing in this new role, beginning to show vision in crossing several early crosses and the free kick pass. need to work on tackling and defensive role. deserve the lower score due to the OG and temperament.
Daryl: LM :7.5 showed good plays and passes today, one of our teams penetrating strength. Showed improvement in positioning today and covering his Full back is a Plus. Team's passing slowed when hes not in the game. Con: need to show more fighting spirit when tired!!!! cant afford captain to laze at the final quarter of the match!!!
Jinyu : CM :7.0 great play today, although the fitness is still a concern, worked his way through a strained tight today. could have push further if fully fit. partnership with ben is juicy!!!
Ben : CM : 7.0 skillful play in the middle of the park, a joy to see him and jinyu dancing around the tall Freaks of the opposition. Although almost out of juice in the second half, he still managed to hold the ball upfront.
Lin Kai : RM : 6.5 great addition in the first half, but equally lacking like the rest of us in fitness. 1st half showed some good play with wilson but it broke down in the second half.
Desmond : LF : 6.5 showed great commitment to the cause with tireless running! have to improve with positioning and shooting.
ASP : RF : 7.5 lasted 20 minutes - scored the only goal and almost added another to his tally, took daryl's ball and the rest showed his pedigree. although at 10% fitness, he showed rather enough to remind me the er xin player he is when fully fit.
Bert: GK : 6.0 can be better although keeper is not his natural position. need to find out more on the position and tok to his defence
Kevin: LB : 6.0 Played at left rather than right, defensive error lead to second goal. need to be composed and improve on tatical position.
Chun Seng : 6.5 Played better in the center and provided a bit more bite when covering ben. Although had to cover unfamiliar grounds on the left in the second half as daryl came off, he did what he had to do but got to improve in fitness and delivery.
Alvin: LB : 6.0 still rather new to field soccer, but needs to build on composure, confidence and control in the game!
My man of match: Desmond (CB) although Jinyu and Daryl come close too.

Player Ratings
WOOT! been a while since i last blogged here!!! didnt even upkeep the chat box. you people ah.... its been a couple of months since our first official kick off in field soccer. in pursue of our passion, we travelled to pitches far and near. Well, we finally ended up with our very own home ground!!!! cool. Been a while since we started playing on the greens, let pundit ng give you a low down of our regular players plus their ratings for today's game.
Today's rating: 6.5 not the best performance today with some off form crosses and shots altough showing improvement in tactical discipline still need to work on curbing his enthusiasm at runs. good link up play with wee though
Wil-Walcott Liaison Coach, right mid-fielder with unstoppable fighting spirit
Today's rating: 7.0 good link up play with the center and supplied several yummy in play crosses for the forwards. need to work on corners delivery.
Today's rating: 6.5 show composure in front of the goal today but still need to add new dimension into game, lower the predictability during dribbles.
Today's rating: 8.0 showed great maturity as a rock in the heart of the defence. a couple more of such performance shd strengthen our teams foundation.
Cx-Maldini Steady defensive midfielder
Today's rating: 7.0 showed his worth by stringing the passes in the center while performing his defensive covering. need to work on his aerial powess though
Today's rating: 7.0 once again the creative platform in the center of the park, showed an eye for goal with several go at long shots although the final move failing him. would be invaluable if he can maintain his tempo throughout the full match.
Desmond Crouch
Determined forward
Today's rating: 6.5 not the best of outing for the motivated forward. tireless runs off the ball showed his worth but his touches today were not the best he has to offer.

Bill Shankly
SATURDAY marks the 26th anniversary of the death of the man who turned Liverpool into "a bastion of invincibility". Bill Shankly died on September 29, 1981, after suffering a heart attack and in the following home game a banner was unfurled on the Kop which told the world "Shankly Lives For Ever". It was only a simple statement, one intended to show that Liverpool’s greatest ever manager would never be forgotten by those who worshiped him, but it has turned out to be something of a truism. Shankly gave Liverpool a soul through his empathy with the common man, he gave the club an identity that made it respected throughout the world and, most of all, he brought dignity, class and distinction to a club that was in danger of being cut adrift prior to his Anfield arrival in 1959. All of those qualities have survived long after his death and no matter how many trophies we win and whatever success we have we should never lose sight of the fact that Liverpool is a special club because of the sheer humanity that Shankly brought to it.
In his own words: "Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and of making yourself available to receive a pass. It is terribly simple." Pass and move – the philosophy on which modern day Liverpool was built. It may not have been invented by Shankly but he instilled it in this football club to such an extent that it could never be forgotten.

Guys!!!!
I like the statement by Bill Shankly: Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and of making yourslef available to receive a pass. It is terribly simple.
SHALL WE IMPLEMENT THIS INTO OUR SOCCER CULTURE?
let's us not be biased by whom said it as long as it benefits us - so that we WILL be successful in our quest of victory K?
Love you guys....my buddies...

8th of July 2007, as usual we have our weekly field training with the veterens. We were wondering when are we going to put in the debut goal ever since we started playing on the field..And..today, our dearest captain, Daryl Teng manages to drive in a superb ball into the 1m by 0.5m small goal post. What an accuracy! We definitely show great performance ever since our first defeat, 0-2 by the uncles. Passes and vision have improved tremendously throughout the team, of course under the guidance of our mentors. It is really a God send.
But one thing disappoints me though..A lot of injuries in our team resulting in poor attendance in our weekly training. Hopefully we can have more people joining us for our weekly training. Not only we can improve from there, but it helps us to improve our fitness as well as our team work. Til then..im looking forward to every sundays.
Cheers..
Wilson

SoccerRoom2
Hi guys,
Update from last week soccermeet/training at East Coast Park
We have witnessed a marked improvement in our coordination and integration in relation in particular in our passing. I was impressed.
The guys and i were giving the uncles not an easy time out there. On a number of occassions we can score and win the game straight away, but our finishing shows more improvement. Nevertheless our defence and midfield are improving, really improving.
Please note that this will be our DESIGNATED tactics and way of playing in future:
1. All goalkicks, throws in and or general play will have to be played through the centre midfield.
This means that any defenders or wingers or strikers who has the ball, generally, will PASS to the central midfielders for all general and creative play. The designated CMs are Jinyu and Chengxi respectively. The CMs thus will have to assume their roles during general play by seeking the ball from the other players to start our general play.
The reason why we are enjoying alot of the game during last east coast training is because we have tried this method and it seems to be working. THUS I WILL EMPHASISE STRONGLY ON THIS PLAY! thanks.
2. Defenders: When you guys tackle or clear the balls, either u clear for a throw in and corners OR clear TO the CMs or the wingers. I AM VERY PARTICULAR IN THIS CAUSE THE DEFENDERS ARE THE LAST LINE OF DEFENCE. thanks.
That's all. I wanna keep our play as simple as possible. NO much individual play and our team must be characterised by SIMPLE PASSING.
I don't expect fringe players (ie. those are not regulars) to receive our tactics and our manner of play but i do expect humbly that the core does. So that we know what to do, especially during moments of pressure.
Individual training:
Let's us brush up on our stamina, simple passing and live out our tactics and general play. Thanks.
End.
Daryl
